Fixed emails out

Finally fixed the email problem. Ended up ditching the qmail program as I was unable to get it to work. Recompiled Sendmail with SMTP AUTH support and finally got it working. Please let me know if you don't get your lost password or new activation email within 24 hours.

Email notification not working

Notification emails are not working for the site currently. If you are interested in becoming a member of this website I would suggest waiting until I can get it working again

Website upgrades

Well, the upgrades did not go as well as planned. When I upgraded the php version, some modules did not work like they did before which was not good. The whole goal of the exercise was to better secure the site from script kiddies from Russia trying to use my site as mail relay or worse. I ended up rolling back the changes to the original settings but have implemented new security settings where new users will have to input a security code to get access to the site. It's not the best solution but it's all I have time for at present.

Problems on site

Am in process of upgrading various facets of the underlying applications such as php, mysql etc but am running into problems. So you may see pages that do not display correctly or the site may be down temporarily while try to fix some of the problems

Site seems to be stable now

Had problems with port forwarding with my new Bell Sympatico account and modem. Think I have them all worked out now.

Server going down 18 Jun 2006

This server will be down starting some time on Sunday Jun 18 2006 until I finish my move which should be sometime during the week of Jun 26-Jul 1

Server unavailability

The server will be going down in the near future in preparation for a move. I expect that it will only be down for less than a week as I pack up and move to our new house. This will take place around 23 Jun. Sorry for any inconvenience this may cause.

Computer failure - lost some accounts

On Sunday 28 Jan 2006, the server I use to host the website had a meltdown. I was able to get it back up and running after two hours from backups but some users that registered in the last week were lost.

Thanks to all the users and guests who have helped my website reach the 100,000 Page view milestone.

Orkney Marriage records added to database

I have added the Orkney Parish marriage records from the 1995 LDS Scottish Parish Records CD. After cleaning them up so that Robt is the same as Robert or Katherine is the same as Catherine etc and removing all the duplicates there are 16,796 records in the database. Just click on the Orkney Old parish records link on the left. As for the Birth/Christening records, there are a total of 72091 records there. As a couple of people have already done, if you see a FRN attached to a family that is obviously wrong due to the separation in years or other wise please let me know so that I can fix it.
